Lead Us Not Into Temptation |
So far we have discussed the lines in the Lord's Prayer: (1)"Holy be your name"; (2)"Your kingdom come"; (3) "Give us this day our daily bread.". (4)"Forgive us our sins". The next line that we will discuss is: "Lead us not into temptation". To be honest I have a bad feeling about this English translation, because it gives the impression that it is the Father that leads us to temptation and we are asking Him not to. I think "Lead us away from temptation" is more like it. The next line says: "But deliver us from Evil." So, we are not only being inclined. This line asks God to deliver us from Evil. That paints a scenario of being trapped in Evil, and we are asking God to deliver us from the situation. Indeed we have already been trapped. We have already been trapped into defying the Father's will at birth. Whether, we are born of God believing parents or atheists, we are trapped. We are trapped into violating the Sabbath. The consequence of that is death: Exodus 31:15 Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to Mankind is continuesly being inclined to take the name of the Father in vain by the teaching that the name is too sacred to be uttered, and that man is not worthy to say the name. Exodus 20:7 Thou shalt not take the name of Mankind is continuesly being lured into worshiping lifeless idols instead of accepting the life-giving image of God within. Many are mentally and emotionally tied to idol worship that they would consider their rights compromised when told not to. Exodus 20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Exodus 20:5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I Every thing we have just cited are exactly the will of God from which our society leads us to draw away from. This will was summarized by our Sabiour: Mark 12:30 And thou shalt love God laid out the way by which love for Him is expressed. Our society lays out the way which is exactly the opposite of what God wants. So our society teaches us how to hate God instead of loving Him. What happens when we hate the God who gives us life? We die. |
