Sabbath And Our Saviour

Let's take a closer look at the following verse:

Mark 2:27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:

Our Saviour said this because according to the teachers of the law two thousand years ago, healing the paralytic is work and it is unlawful to work on the Sabbath. That is like saying man was made for the Sabbath.

The idea of our Saviour was different. Sabbath gives rest to man from his six days work, and healing the paralytic was giving him rest from his suffering for years. That is what He meant by "Sabbath was made for man." In other words, Sabbath and healing mean the same in terms of "rest."

Unfortunately, the teachers and preachers of today, after two thousand years, are making our understanding worse. They still can't heal the paralytic. Worse, they say that as followers of the Son of God, God does not expect us to live by the laws of Israel. That is not what our Saviour said:

Matthew 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

Matthew 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

The teachers and preachers of today say that it does not matter which day Sabbath must be observed. It doesn't look like that in the following verses:

Isaiah 66:23 And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD Yahuwah.

Psalm 104:19 He appointed the moon for seasons: the sun knoweth his going down declares its advent.

One of the purposes of our Saviour is to fulfil the true meaning of the law and the prophets. The same were being violated by Israel when He was born. Israel fell from the wealthiest and most powerful nation during the reign of David and later after that, Solomon, to be ruled over by their enemies.

Jeremiah 17:27 But if ye will not hearken unto me to hallow the sabbath day, and not to bear a burden, even entering in at the gates of Jerusalem on the sabbath day; then will I kindle a fire in the gates thereof, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem, and it shall not be quenched.

Israel did not listen, so Rome destroyed Jerusalem on August 10, 70 A.D. If Yahuwah punished His own people for violating the Sabbath, what could make us think that doing the same mistake Israel did will please Him?

That is how serious Yahuwah is about the Sabbath. There is no mistake about that. Some preachers say the whole of the biblical story seems to emphasize the purpose of the Sabbath rather than specific rules for observing it. Unfortunately, they are teaching us to ignore both. On the contrary the whole of the biblical story emphasizes both the "purpose" and the "specific rules" for observing the Sabbath.
