The Good News

About 6 thousand years ago a news came to Eve. The news guy was an Archangel, saying: "You can eat of the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of good and evil without really dying. It will make you become like the gods who know good and evil." That sounded good because they did not really die immediately and they began to know not only good but also evil. Problem was that their life became miserable, and after 900 years they realized that they lost their immortality. So, God was right they should surely die, only not so quickly.

Adam and Eve believed Satan because he was an archangel. Archangels were reputed to bring good news not bad. This should be a lesson to mankind. Not all reputable news guys remain good. However, there is a way to distinguish the good from the bad news guys.

In the case of Eve, she had the opportunity to consider that the message was a stark contrast of God's telling her not to eat the forbidden fruit. Eve should have asked permission from God to do what the evil one suggested. God could have told her that she was already god by virtue of the image of God in her, and the Archangels should bow before her.

We have the opportunity Eve missed when we hear or read messages that are supposed to guide our faith. Let me give you an example:

Colossians 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

Colossians 2:17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ the Son of God.

Preachers say that these verses tell us that we don't need to adhere to the requirements enumerated in Colossians 2:16 anymore. What is important is to believe in the Son of God who is to come. Nice to hear. Sounds like an easier way to be saved. However, we have the opportunity to go back to what the Son of God said:

Matthew 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

The Preachers are wrong because "the law" that our Saviour is talking about is the meat, drink, respect for an holiday, the new moon, the Sabbath days, that Collossians 2:16 enumerates. Collossians 2:17 is right to say that these are shadow of things to come; the shadow of body of the Son of God, which He does not intend to abolish but to fulfill.

Therefore, we need to walk in His shadow to get ready while we wait for His coming.

That is what I do. I let the words of the Son of God Himself shed light on the teachings and practices that came after His Resurrection.
