The first explanation of stem cell therapy I learned was maybe 20 years ago. As far as I can remember the process goes like a sample of your blood, may be 250 ml, is brought to a lab that would extract stem cells. Then growth factors are added to the stem cells to make them active. Then it is injected back to you. The stem cells then would circulate into your body and find areas to be repaired. The blood stem cells we have just discussed belong to a general classification called "adult stem cells." The other classification is called "embryonic stem cells." Embryonic stem cells are responsible for the rapid multiplication and differentiation of cells into different organs of the growing fetus inside the mother's womb. When we stop growing, the stem cell acquires a sleeping state in their particular home tissues like the bone, brain, muscles, blood. Stem cells are generic cells that the body uses for regeneration or repair of damage tissues. So, if you have skin injury, the body produces Human Growth Hormone (HGH) to activate the stem cells in your skin to regenerate skin cells to repair the damage area. Stem cell therapy these days may cost about $50,000.00. I belong to the class of society that cannot afford that. So, is the current conventional way of stem cell therapy the only way to renew our flesh body? If we give it more thought there may be other ways, and mind you some of us may be doing it already without being aware of it. How? Think about this. All tissues: blood, brain, bone, muscles, blood vessels, etc., have sleeping stem cells. We just need the body to produce Human Growth Hormone (HGH) to activate the stem cells. We have mentioned injury can do that. A bone fracture, for example, can trigger stimulation of stem cells to generate new bone cells to repair the damage. Are there other ways? One way is what body builders do. When a muscle for example, the biceps are subjected to stress by weihgt resistance traing, the biceps grow bigger. That means the body produces HGH to activate the stem cell to stimulate generation of new muscle cells. Body builders design different exercises for different muscle tissues. In this way we eliminate a lot of procedure but achieve the same and maybe better results. There could be extra stem cells from the muscles to go with the blood and find areas in the body that need repair. Another way is fasting. Studies show that 24 hour fast activates stem cells in the gut and repair the digestive system. Forty eight hour fast resets and repairs the dopamine system. Seventy two hours resets and repairs the immune system. Fasting longer begins to repair injuries anywhere in the body, the longer the better. A word of caution though: as much as possible practice a 24 hour fast once a week first. Once the body gets used to a 24 hour fast, it becomes ready to do a longer one. The benefits of fasting is supported by both anecdotal and scientific evidence. It is even supported by the Bible: Mat 17:21 - Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting. |
